/ˈrek.əɡ.naɪz/「レコグナイズ」。最初の「レ」に第一アクセント。
～を認識する、～だとわかる、～を認める、～を称える
to identify someone or something seen before; to acknowledge the existence or validity of something.
「再び(re)知る(cognize)」→「以前知っていたことを再び知る」→認識する。
例文
I didn't recognize you with your new haircut.
新しい髪型だったので、あなただと分かりませんでした。
「見覚え・聞き覚えがある」という認識から、「功績を認める」まで意味が広い。
