不可算名詞（数えられない名詞）と一緒に使うのが基本。「a large amount of information」「the amount of money」。可算名詞には`number`を使います。この区別はPart 5で頻出です。
リスニングのポイント
amountとnumberは聞き間違えにくいですが、リスニングでは後に続く名詞が単数形か複数形かを聞き取ることで、どちらが使われているか推測できます。
