口実、言い訳
A reason given to justify an action that is not the real reason.
「pre(前に) + text(文章)」→ 前もって用意した言い訳の文章、と覚える。
例文

彼は頭痛を口実に会議を退席した。
本当の理由を隠すための「見せかけの理由」というニュアンスで使われる。
